The European airspace has been closed for six days last month because of the Volcanic ash of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland. It seems that the ash strikes again. There will be more flight disruption this weekend because the ash cloud drifts over western Europe. 22 Ryanair flights and three easyJet flights to Canary Islands, Spain and Portugal were cancelled today at London Stansted. At other airports the same thing happened and it will continue. The weather forecast is showing even more trouble for the airspace. Notherly wind will bring the ash to Ireland an western Scotland and this will cause a lot of trouble for the airplanes. Fortunately the forecast also predicts that this ash cloud is expected to drift away from the UK on Wednesday.
The ash cloud... This cloud has been on the news for weeks and weeks now. It bores, but also fascinates me. It has cost more than £1bn to airlines already, but was that necessary? I truly doubt that. I think that airports are overreacting to the volcanic outburst. I know that safety first is the motto of most airports, but one ash cloud which causes so much trouble is ridiculous! I think that the closure for six days was way too much... They closed the whole airspace for six days! The whole airspace! I think that it is a good thing to think about safety, but do not overreact. Be stolid about these disasters and do not let such a thing make you lose control.
